Regional School Unit 57 (RSU57) is a public school district in the Waterboro area, which includes seven schools, ranging from elementary to high school. They were in need of a centralized storage building and put their project out to bid, looking for a contractor who could deliver a quality product on time and on budget. PATCO Construction, Inc. won the bid for their reasonable estimate and stellar community reputation.

“They provided exactly what we needed,” shares RSU57 Operations Manager, Behn Brooks. PATCO built a 2925 sq ft storage building similar to a large garage, with 2 big doors and a concrete slab floor. Temperature controlled with the help of heat pumps, it’s also an energy efficient space for the district to store extra classroom furniture, sports equipment, and whatever else they need. While the building is simple and could be thought of as basic, PATCO is known for elevating simple metal buildings. Says Brooks, “It’s a beautiful building [and] a great addition to the campus. It looks like it’s been there awhile.” In total, the project took about 4 months, wrapping up in late July, well ahead of schedule.

Brooks enjoyed the experience of working with the PATCO team on the project. As with all projects, challenges arose and PATCO helped Brooks successfully navigate a couple of change orders and a complicated utilities tie-in. Brooks appreciated the communication, expertise, and collaboration that PATCO provided. “They were always trying to think in the long-term for us. You could tell they really wanted to deliver for a local school district.”  In several instances, feedback from PATCO helped the district save money on the project while still meeting their needs.

PATCO’s Ethan Belanger, an Assistant Engineer, was a key partner for Brooks during the project. Brooks appreciates that even though the building is done, he knows he can call Belanger and PATCO if anything comes up. “They made it very clear. They are right down the road and here to help. It’s awesome to know PATCO is right in our backyard.”
